New salary to be applied as of June

A new salary calculation method for state employees will be applied as of June 5, 2009. Accordingly, the minimum salary will increase from VND540,000 to VND650,000 per month. Pension, social welfare and monthly allowances will increase by 5%.

Minimum salary to rise to US $38.20 next May

Those subjects eligible for the new minimum salary will be state employees at all levels, teachers, health workers, employees who have labour contracts with non-state agencies, deputies of People’s Councils at all levels.

Accordingly, the base salary will be calculated based on the minimum salary (VND650,000, or $38) multiplied by a salary coefficient. This method will be also used to determine allowances.

The minimum salary will be the foundation for calculating salaries, allowances and social welfare based on the current rules.
