“Hunting” grasshoppers
Roasted grasshoppers is a popular cuisine among urban drinkers. A kilo of grasshoppers is priced between 25,000-30,000. Catching grasshoppers is now a lucrative job for many farmers in My Duc district, Hanoi.
My Duc people sell around 2-3 tonnes of grasshoppers to restaurants in Hanoi and neighbouring provinces a day. The demand for this insect is on the rise while the source of grasshoppers is being narrowed. The post-harvest period is the time to hunt grasshoppers.
